The question of food selection and timing is extremely important to the elite military athlete. Before during and after mission the caloric needs and nutrient requirements are varied to elicit optimum human performance. Military fitness is also greatly affected by how and what the service member eats with regard to their daily training regimen. In the basic schools only a very remedial training for nutrition is provided and just a handful of special operations forces receive any in depth education, with respect to nutrition optimization for military performance. Specifying meals and diet to account for pre exertion and post exertion as wall as snacks for during mission or training events can greatly improve tactical performance.
